I don't know! We were on that island simulation, and then...!

[What. Keiichi definitely didn't die... he got out of all the predicaments safe and sound. But apparently this girl didn't.]

[She turned her head at this. He didn't remember. Of course he didn't. Chances were, no one else did, either.]

Its just...a nightmare. Don't worry about it.

[Keiichi tilts his head. He didn't understand any of this before, and he definitely doesn't now.]

If you say it's just a nightmare, it's probably not. What's going on? Are you in trouble?

[He decides to change the subject before she freaks out again.]

[And now she is covered with slobber.

An attempt to casually flip her hair at the sudden...random...licking caused her hair to flop flat and for her hand to be covered in said slobber.

[Conflicting memories were beginning to seem like a common affliction. Even Kirei himself had no way of being entirely certain what had or had not transpired, but the look on Homura's face indicated he was far from alone in that confusion.]

[A little too excited to really give Homura any room for personal space at all, she sees her friend and hugs her tightly, having been worried this whole time for her sake; after watching such a brutal execution, having her back just makes it seem more and more like it was all just a horrible nightmare...]

Oh, Homura, thank goodness..! You're okay, you're oka--

[And that's when she realizes Homura might not have the same kind of memories as she does...and tries to kind of restrain her excitement a bit. She's incredibly enthusiastic and relieved to see that her friend is alright, but...]

[Now she feels pretty darn awkward about the whole thing. Moreso than usual, in fact. I mean, if she doesn't remember, there's not exactly an easy way to break news to someone that you watched them die. But she'll cross the bridge when she gets there. She doesn't let go of Homura, though.]

It's, uh, good to see you...eheh...

I don't understand.

[Those eyes - trying to be cold, of course - start to mist.]

Are you dead? What's happened?

No, Homura, I'm alive, and you're alive! Cynthia, too! Everyone's alive!

[She must remember...oh no...She'll just wrap her arms around Homura a little more tightly...]

Some sort of space-time mumbo-jumbo happened..! I don't get it myself, but the important thing is that your trial didn't really happen in this reality, you're alive and okay! You didn't kill anyone, nobody and nothing killed anyone, nobody's dead...! And we're not going to be forced to participate in anything like that anymore, the stupid bear is gone...!

[She doesn't realize it, but her hands are going for a return of that hug.]

To be honest, I was thinking it might have been something our very own Super High School Level Time Traveller did, but...

[She strokes Homura's hair and smiles at her friend]

I'm not complaining about it at all. It's so nice to be able to put that trial behind us, like it was some kind of horrible nightmare...and without that bear in charge, we can finally find our way back home without having to worry about any Mutual Killing nonsense. Maybe we can even get back to our own time periods. You can get back to 2011, and see her again...
